A beginner's guide to SEO-ready content briefs

A content brief is the bridge between keyword research and a page that ranks. Without one, writers guess; with one, they write for the reader and the search engine at once.

What a brief holds

  • The main keyword and its close variants.
  • The question the page must answer, in one sentence.
  • The headings a reader expects, taken from the pages that rank today.
  • The facts, examples and sources to use.
  • The action the reader should take at the end.

Build it in thirty minutes

  1. Pick one keyword cluster, not one keyword.
  2. Read the top five results and note what they all cover.
  3. Write down what they miss: that is your angle.
  4. Turn the notes into headings, and the headings into a short outline.

Keep it short

A brief is a map, not a draft. One page is enough. The best briefs leave room for the writer's voice while making sure nothing important is missing.
